New Innovation Centre for Smart City Development

Several CityZEN partners take part in creating Nordic Edge Innovation Lab, a smart city innovation centre which is set to be among the biggest in Europe.

Smedvig, Sparebank1 SR-bank, Lyse, Microsoft and Stavanger municipality are part of the group that joins forces to further boost the innovation and restructuring power of Rogaland county.

The goal of the innovation centre is to bring together various initiatives, environments and programmes that together will create new services, solutions and technologies. These will accelerate the transition to a smarter and more sustainable society where people are at the centre, according to a press release from the Nordic Edge Cluster (Norwegian language).

Together with Tieto, Microsoft is one of the companies that goes into and strengthens the innovation lab. The technology giant is building a data center in the Stavanger region as part of its global expansion and has been a strategic partner of Nordic Edge since 2016. Microsoft is now taking the step further by becoming one of the initiators of the Nordic Edge Innovation Lab.

“The investment related to the development and operation of the innovation lab is currently in excess of NOK 20 million. In addition, considerable investor capital will be connected with the investment. This allows us to make investments in companies that can deliver smart and sustainable solutions to an international market,” says Karl Fjelde Nevland, Manager of Nordic Edge Innovation Lab, in the press release.
